Dang! Were those used on a Pantera with that spring? Is there a rubber snubber on the top end of the shock?

I found out that if I turn the top of the coilovers counterclockwise, I was able to make room for the spring seat to slide out and in turn the spring can then be removed. Can anyone verify that it's ok to do that...

It's okay to do that....the upper spring seat has a cut out th same width as the shock piston so that if the spring is compressed slightly (or the ride height adjustment loosened all the way) the seat can be removed and then the spring slides out. That is how they are designed to be dismantled.
