I acquired a 1971 (1341) that has the windshield installed with what appears to be a home made gasket system. The windshield is mounted exposing a ½” recessed gap at the top where it appears the windshield was mounted too low. The windshield markings say that it was manufactured in Germany and the safety glass is starting to separate in the lower left corner.

Any thoughts about removal and re-setting the windshield? I’m afraid it will break and, if so, where can you go for a replacement? Help!

If you are going to replace the windshield rubber, then just cut it and carefully remove the windshield. The Pantera parts vendors will have replacement windshields. Mine came from Wilkinson.

If you are replacing the windshield rubber, and you still have the two piece chrome molding, then be prepared to shell out big bucks for a new one. Bob Byars at Precision Proformance has them, and Larry Stock at Pantera Parts Connection may still have one. Wilkinson will tell you that the rubber in no longer available for the two piece chrome molding.

If you need a new gasket, trim and windshield then maybe consider one of Wilkinson's modern upgrade glue in windshields. He had them on special last month, maybe he'll still cut you a deal.

Thanks to all of you. I was not aware of the chrome trim that is missing from my car’s windshield. Perhaps this gap I’m seeing is a void that should be filled with metal. I’m starting to think the windshield might be installed correctly. Have any of you figured out a way to work this without the chrome? Would any of these parts dealers have a kit that comes in black rubber? Please excuse my ignorance as my car is a 25 year old dream recently come true.

No, it is not.

Chrome trim presses into a slot running down the middle of the rubber gasket. It is a PITA to remove and install without bending.

There were at one time some vendor supplied windshields that were undersized. I suspect you may have one?

What is the manufacturer's name on your windshield?

I've been told that Steve Wilkinson has a rubber gasket that eliminates the chrome, but I have not verified this. Give him a call. 562-634-3434

A photo or two would help this thread.

Can you post some?

If you need help, just ask.
