Rosewood (?) Shift Knob

OK, I'm not sure if this knob was rosewood or pootywood.....just a guess! Raised near the woods...not in them!

I would like the "same" size.... I didn't have any grip issues in the Goose....! But I'm not a maniac driver...! Usually....! I would also need to have the logo space.....

Understood about the insert. Would need to check to see that threads on Pantera shifter stalk are the same as what was on the Goose. I suspect it is....

It seems to me that there were black plastic small knobs on some Panteras???? (potential pattern?)

Yes, there could be a small market for custom cool wood knobs! I think the Goose wood knob is as "Italian" as you can get....not overstated giant knob....just enuf! ...from one that used to have a beer tap handle on his old 62 SS Hurst shifter!!!

No, it is still on the car.....since it was original to the Goose....and I sold the car....figured new owner would want it!!!

But I was thinking that I've seen the small knobs in plastic(?) on some Panteras....so should be able to drum something up easily....

are you saying the Goose Knob is smaller than the Pantera?

Picture is of my GOose knob. I'm thinking that it is "same or similar" to some black versions I've seen in early Panteras?????

My 74 has big-ish black knob.....this would be sort of a reminder of the old car.....AND I think feel more "Italian-sports-car-ish"!

There is rosewood on his web page (scroll way down), but doesn't quite match what I have....so now wondering about teak.....sorta looks like it.

But way the original was cut, from a knotty section to get the little round patterns on multiple sides is very nice/neat look!!!

Steve, your wooden 'Goose knob looks like a stock Pantera knob with the lightly-padded leatherette stripped (or worn) off. You realize that if you add a nice rosewood shift knob, next year you'll be looking at the GT-5 wood dash & console inserts... you're at the edge of a very slippery slope, my friend!

That looks about right! My bigger one......is bigger around....sorta VW looking....or like an upside down pear of sorts.

I have no reason to believe that my Goose knob is anything but the original! I could check with second owner......about this detail, but I suspect that it came with the car.

I found the cloisonned center emblem when I was working down in the console. It was in sad shape with part of the logo chipped... I put it away for safe keeping....must be pretty safe, cuz even I can't find it now....! BUT, it was same size as logo in the knob.

If this was covered....can't imagine it using the same logo......

BUT if you have a picture of what's underneath a stock Pantera knob...would love to see it! Perhaps I'll just tear the gopher hide off of it and go from there!!!

No worries about any more wood work....but I am thinking about a GTS clock.....not necessarily in the GTS location.......! Why constantly remind your passenger of the time! Way more interesting to give them an oil pan temperature readin!!! ))

Every stock Pantera knob that I have seen uncovered was made from a whitish plastic. Not wood.

I made my shift knob out of aluminum on the lathe. I was told by self proclaimed experts that it would get it hot. I have yet to experience any heat in the shift knob even on long drives. I have been quite happy with it:

I have metal knob in Pantera. It's never been hot due to the car itself, but once after parking in sun in France I could hardly shift gears, it was too hot too touch.

My Mangusta came with a black plastic ball for a shift knob.
Later my kids bought me a beautiful leather shift knob with De Tomaso logo on top for my birthday, about 1973.
I still have it in the car. It came from a company that advertised in Road & Track.

Is it round on one plane only or is it a ball?

Did your car have this piece on it when it was being shown to the GM folks??? (if you know...)

If the latter, then I would say that it has some value....but on the car. Otherwise, it's just a round ball with metric threads.....and unless used on some other fancy Italian car it's worth is gonna vary depending on who is buying....

...good start at cleaning out the garage!
