After some searching I was able to locate the original engine block from 596 which had been sold in 1992. I have an opportunity to purchase the block and I am wondering if it's worth the cost and effort. Were the bottom ends serialized or in any way marked? I have absolutely zero interest in returning the engine to the car. However if it were ever to go for sale, it might be a value-add to include the original block. It's worth nothing that it's just a block, no rotating assembly.

The Mangusta's original block although not critical is easy to ID. As it bears no short VIN stamp. Odds are it is a late 68 J code motor. The critical part is the intake as it has the DeTomaso logo and engine VIN stamp.

The same applies to Panteras. The block specific VIN stamped behind the left head by DeTomaso.

So anytime any of you see a 302 intake with DT stamp or 351 bloack with DT stamp. Please do not hesitate to purchase.
