Wonder about one thing. How much, if any, difference is it if you have a silencer in either steel, stainless or carbon-fiber? Normal steel rust, carbon is lighter, but any difference in sound/resonance or other things to think about? (Lets say they are same size/type silencer).

If you are talking about your Pantera, the ANSA mufflers only come in steel. My 09 mustang has unpolished stainless pipes and mufflers from the factory.

I was thinking more in general. I'm about to change my headers to 180's, and will fit some suitable silencers. What to chose? And why?

Stainless seems to be the rage on US made new cars now.

I'm sure I read somnewhere about someone making a set of wooden forms and fabricating stainless ANSA reproductions?

The rage is also to ceramic coat headers, but I'm not sure of the extended life of ceramic coated mild steel vs. stainless. The ceramic coating certainly dissipates heat much quicker, I have coated headers with stainless mufflers and the headers will be cold to the touch way before the mufflers. Also when it gets very hot stainless 'blues' and the mufflers are dull looking now.

Decided to go for carbon-fiber. Almost 30%lighter than same size stainless silencer.
