It IS possible but you may have to slack off the bolts/studs on mains #1-4 a turn or two, after removing #5 cap and pull down on the rear of crank a little to make it easier to tap out the old split seal & tap in a new one. Use a bent brass or plastic rod and a SMALL hammer so as to not scar up the crank journal.

Are you really sure the leak is from the rear main seal (if thats why you're changing seals) is the cause? Most times its the pan side gaskets, the pan end seal or even the rocker cover gaskets- they all drip oil at the rear. One car had a dripping clutch slave cylinder! Occasionally, the ZF's front seal leaks but diff lube smells different. Good luck- J DeRyke
LIke many things today, some companies are selling 351W seals that will sort-of-fit a 351C. One is a low-drag teflon one-piece seal. Takes special installation technique (NO oil or lube) and you need to bore the back end of the block/rear main cap to fit. It will fit an altered Cleveland but there are easier, cheaper ways to fix a rear main seal leak....
