With all the discussion on soft Pantera axles going bad, what is the best way to determine if mine are bad? Is removal the best way? IF so, what special tools are required and how long should it take to disassemble?

Thanks
Rod

To check for bad axles, take out the fiberglas luggage tub and, whie carefully watching the outer u-joint of the axle in question, have a second person throw a hip into the fender just above the wheel. If the axle or wheel bearing is worn, the axle will 'pop up' noticably, rather than just move sideways. Note- don't hit the fender so hard that it dents- not too much force is required The stock axles were machined slightly undersize for the stock bearings. When driving, cornering force causes the very hard bearing races to move relative to the axle shaft. Being softer, the axle wears, and only about .002" of wear will get a wheel to wobble noticably.
