All,
anybody to know if the control unit in the center console was also used in different cars? One arm is broken on my unit, looking for replacement. Does anybody have one for sale? Cheers, Andy |

What year is your car there are at least 2 control units mine is a 74 which has replaceable arms. I got mine from Marino at Pantera East in Clearwater FL. If I am right I paid $45 I needed one and I got the last one 7 months ago he might have more by now.
Does anyone know how to get the controller out? Also if you want the older style I have a complete system I bought it on Evilbay a few years ago it attaches with 2 nuts and a clip. And Remember... Shiney Side up Rubber Side Down! Joe |

Posted July 04, 2008 11:09 AM On my '74 I have a broken hot/cold lever and have the replacement plastic part. It looks like it would just slip/snap onto the end of the flat metal part of the lever if I could get the rest of the old piece out. Has anyone done this without removing the whole lever unit? Can I just break or file off the rest of the plastic piece? Thanks, Mitch Mitch # 7092 Posts: 86 | Location: Ormond Beach, Florida | Registered: September 04, 2004 andriyko Posted July 04, 2008 01:26 PM Hide Post I have removed my plastic levers. I had to make a custom tool. After doing it once - I decided to avoid doing it again. First, I removed the guage console from the car so that I could get at the levers from the backside. I could not remove the lever box (attached on the back of the guage console) without removing the levers. There is the conundrum. DO NOT Pry the levers off. They will surely crack or break (depending on how old the plastic is). If memory serves, the lever just slides and then snaps into place on the metal blade. You need to slide a thin piece of metal, from the backside, between the plastic and the metal blade, to unspring the clip that holds the lever. Have a good look and make yourself the custom tool (with the thin blade) you will need. Once you get the levers off, you can service the lever box and associated bits. If you are trying to replace a broken lever and you have a replacement lever, just go ahead and remove the broken plastic bits and anything plastic left over. This can be done without fully removing the guage panel or lever unit. Try not to damage the plastic lever bezel. You should not damage the mounting blade. Then, as you say, slide on the replacement lever until it snaps into place. HTH B.G. Posts: 261 | Location: Ontario, Canada | Registered: October 01, 2004 And Remember... If the discussion is about the plastic levers (plastic chrome - 3 of them), Steve Wilkinson is having replacements made (stock look).
Check with him. Cheers, B.G. |
