Hi all,
Just the messenger of the messenger, but anyone thinking of attending the DeTomaso 50th annniversary bash in Modena should contact the Swedes ASAP. The preliminary plan is to accept up to 50 non-Europeans who would be ferried around in a bus - additional busses may be added if volume justifies it.

You now have the dates and approximate prices - contact the Swedes if you are interested and see you there!

We have been in touch with the Swedish Club. They are driving to Italy and will only arrive late in the schedule of activities listed and stay for only part of this event.

Our Canadian group is planning on coming with our cars. Is this event for real?

There is no Detomaso representative or anyone else actually in charge of organizing the activities. Much planning is needed to carry out the event as described and I am wondering how this will be handled.

If you are planning on coming with your cars, then you may want to consider traveling with the Swedish club instead of going straight to Italy. They tend to make a leisurely drive down, stopping at the Nurbringring, for example, which might be fun. The Modena tour sounds geared toward people who have come without a car, and I don't know how much fun it will be to follow a bus around in your Panteras.

I've attended every meeting the Swedes have organized for the past 8 years or so (ok, so that's only 4 meetings, but still...) but am trying to decide if I'll attend this one. The factory doesn't exist anymore, and everyone will only be together for two days, I think.

If you are thinking of sending cars over, one other option is to attend Le Mans classic in two years. I just got back so haven't had a chance to write up my impressions, but this year we had a group of roughly 20 people touring the Loire Valley and their chateaux, then ended in Le Mans for the Classic 24 hours. What a great experience! If you like classic cars, you owe it to yourself to attend this event at least once. When I get a moment I'll write up a complete description, but it is probably one of the largest concentrations of really cool cars on the planet. Seeing 5 GT-40's take the green flag while being chased by a pair of Porsche 917's and a Chevron... the ground rumbles! Earlier Maserati 300S's, Jaguar D-types, Aston Martins... it really is a feast!

Le Mans sounds great. So does a tour from Scandanavia to Modena.

But we were planning on a leisurely cruise through Italy, with this historic Detomaso event as the highlight. We will be exploring the countryside, eating and drinking our way through Tuscany.

I don’t plan on following a bus around, but the schedule designed sounds pretty complete, visting Milan, Torino and Modena and taking part in the displays and events with many Detomaso owners and Tom Tjaarda, Santiago and Isabella Detomaso.

The schedule also features visits to Monza, Varano di Melegari, tours of the Dallara, Lamborghini, Pagani and Ferrari factories, plus trips to Auto Racing Museums as well as the concorso and exhibition at the Piazza dell Duomo.

This sounds like a fantastic plan - if it’s for real.

Is this a real event or just an idea? Who is in charge? Does anyone in Italy, EU or the US have any solid information?

We have it very organized. We have a broker who will have the containers shipped to us. We will load and prepare our cars (3 per container) then they will be picked up and shipped to Italy. We have a choice of ports and Carmen's cousin in Italy (who ships cars to and from US) will pick up the containers and hold until we arrive. Cost is less than east coast to west coast here! All good - except for any confirmation that this is a real event.
