Midnight at the Oasis (Yuma, AZ - 06-08 March '15)

The Arizona and San Diego POCA Chapters had a great trip to MATO. We would like to thank Sharon May, Les Gray, and Janelle for setting up a great event - not just the show, but coordinating the rooms, dinner, and Janelle's birthday party.

The event was coordinated for the POCA chapters, and for the "Loners" car club. We had a good turnout of nice people.

Pantera-wise, we had the following cars:

  • "Squeaky Clean" - '71 Pre-L (Doug and Terri L.)
  • '73 L - Black (Kevin C.)
  • "Black Panther" - '73 L (Tony & Carmen O. & Family)
  • '73 L - Yellow (Chuck H.)
  • '71 Pre-L - Blue (Mike & Denise B. )
  • '74 L - Blue with Widebody Conversion (Scott & Martha M.)
  • '71 Pushbutton - Black (Marshall & Christine)

    We also had a bunch of DeTomaso owners make the trip (Sharon, Les, Bill, Rick, Ed, George and Leon). Leon brought a cool Barracuda to haul the family around in.

    It was a nice group with a lot in common - our cars!

That's right, that's Tony Ortiz' car.

It is super-awesome. The S/N is only 3 numbers off from my car (5357), it was once a '73 L model.

There have also been some other stuff on it in automotive press - there is video out somewhere called "Black Panther".

He's got a lot of custom touches on it.

Actually, there was a big debate on it in the POCA email exchange about 5-6 months back, too.

It's sort of like the Ring Brother's car - some people love it, others may not. It's an impressive piece of work.

Tony's an AZ guy, and he gets the car to all the major events in AZ and in Southern CA.

PS - I forgot to add that as a group, we overcame multiple mechanical issues to make this a successful event...

Fan Misalignment & Bypass.... I noted my fan was touching the radiator, I thought somehow the fan motor had shifted forward. This was not the case, the blade assembly had loosened, and was wobbling around. I had to disconnect my sensor, and drive my car home with my "low-temperature" fan disabled for about 20 miles. The fan problem has been diagnosed, and reassembled (with minor updates to the wiring, and paint on the visible side of the motor).

We even had to use some tools!
