Great show. We had a good turnout of cars, and a nice mix of colors.

Watch this space for pictures.

One of our members (BlackPanther) won "Most Distinguished" award from the M.A.T.O. judges - this is high praise, as there were over 500 cars in attendance.

Here is a picture of my car being blessed by St. Escubio on the California side of the line.

OK, So I can't figure out how to paste in images, but if you click on this link, it will take you to the Google Images album, where you can see all the pictures that I thought were good enough to publish.

MATO 2017 Album - Google Images

We had a great group at this event. There were 7 P-Cars (6 from AZ, and one from San Diego).

In addition to the members who brought their cars we had additional DeTomaso owners that ran around with us...

  • Les - Pantera (Group 4)
  • Sharon - Mangusta
  • John - Pantera
  • Kevin and Wendy - 2 Panteras

Sharon has the connections with the venue, and got us the absolute best parking in the stadium. All our cars were in a group, and in a place of honor. Close to restrooms, coffee, and doughnuts, as well.

Several of the group arrived earlier, and had a bit of relaxation. Our group (4 P-cars and a Porsche Carerra 4S) caravanned in on Friday morning. We got in, got set up, and then ate the DELICIOUS barbeque that was set up for the participants. That night we came back to the venue for some wild Rock and Roll with "Dog and Butterfly" (a Heart Tribute Band) and Desperado (Eagles Tribute).

The next days was the main show. We got in early for "Show and Shine", and got the cars cleaned up before the "unwashed" arrived about 10:00 AM. When they came in, they came! It was an onslaught!

The spectators were very enthusiastic about the Panteras, with lots of interest and questions....

The day was spent eating our chicken lunch with beans, provided by the Callaleros. Then more gazing and gawking at the cars. It was quite the show, with HUNDREDS of cars.

In the evening, we retired to the pool / lounge for happy hour, and some hot-tubbing. We returned to the venue to see two more bands, "Crimes of Passion" (Pat Benatar tribute), and Queen Nation (Queen impersonators). Both the bands were good, playing all the hits.

Finally, in the morning (Sunday) we returned to the event for the a little wind-down, and to check for the prizes.

Tony Ortiz won with his Black Pannter (Most Distinguished), unfortunately none of us won the 63 Impala SS with the 454 Big Block Upgrade.

We had a nice ride back to Phoenix and Tucson, with only minor issues.

Here's Tony with his award winning car...

I think that's a OHV engine with false DOHC valve/rocker covers, that were available at one time.
