Some of the earlier west coast cars were delivered right off the ship with blown engines due to stevedore's redlining the things in dockside drag-races, according to Bill Stroppe. Some of those would have gotten factory replacement blocks that obviously would have been unstamped. This was prior to Ford jobbers and dealers even receiving the cars. Likely the same could have happened on the East Coast.
