Reply to "Ike and the Texas Gulf Coast"

I am just outside of Corpus Christi which is 4 hours from Houston. Ike was originally forecast to make landfall here. We got a large number of people that were evacuating Houston including my brother-in-law. Some of the gas stations on the way from Houston to Corpus jacked up the gas prices as high as $4.29 a gallon. They were reported for gouging. Here in my town there was a severe shortage of plastic gas cans that people who were returning to Houston used to take gas back with them. At one point the local Ace Hardware was charging $88 for a plastic 5 gallon can. They were reported as well. I gave my brother-in-law 3 five gallon containers when he went back. I told him I better get my $264 gas containers back soon. He went back to Houston yesterday and got his power turned back on today. He says that things are getting back to normal unless you are close to Galveston. The interstates are open and much of the debris has already been cleared from the streets. There are people from all over the US in Houston working on getting the power back up and cleaning up. Galveston is a different story. It is going to be a long time until they are back to normal.
