Thanks, car has full roll cage and that continues into the engine bay to stiffen things up. And yes that is a muffler above the trans.  Noise is a real issue even when racing in UK / Europe and the regulations li it us to 105 db at 3/4 max revs taken 1m from tailpipe. The Ansa's were showing size of struggling to cope with the race engine, and are too expensive to replace regularly!  The usual race mufflers available just don't drop noise enough as it's such a short run from header to tip.   So going up to muffler and then down again to exit below rear panel is about the only solution and even then we are on the 105 limit even at 4,000 / 4,500 (I tell them it 's a 6000 rpm limit...)
