Reply to "Rumours on refurbished 351 engines on new Pantera in early 80's"

US Ford manufactured the 351C through mid-1974. When De Tomaso's stock of US manufactured 351C engines was depleted (circa 1976) they began sourcing them from Ford of Australia. Ford of Australia manufactured the 351C through 1984 or 1985. De Tomaso continued using brand new 351C engines sourced from Australia through 1986. At that point they transitioned to 351W engines sourced again from US Ford.

I believe the first Pantera equipped with a 351W was a GTS, chassis 9483, assembled in September 1986.

GT5-S Panteras assembled by Amerisport in the late 1980s were equipped with 351 Clevelands however, even when De Tomaso had transitioned to 351W engines. The Clevelands installed in the Amerisports were composed of NOS short blocks and rebuilt 2V cylinder heads (US head castings).
