Commonly known as a vehicle identification number, VIN. Modern cars have a 17 digit VIN but ours does not; just 11 digits.

Many but apparently not all cars also had the last four numbers of the VIN stamped into the bottom portion of each headlight bucket.

As the pedal box VIN is stamped into the chassis rather than attached by rivets to the B pillar or the dashboard, that is the one VIN that should be more valid in the event of any dispute
