Reply to "Water Temp Sender Placement"

I asked the same question from bosswrench awhile back when putting my engine back together. On the block right below the thermostat is a pipe threaded opening. It is there that you will want to screw in the water temp sensor.

Others have them on the water pump right below the heater hose connection but that location gives incorrect readings due 1) it being the return water temp and 2) it being close to the water pump recirculating fins and thus cavatation.

In the begining the factory put the water temp sender up on the swirl tank and this didn't work out so well either due to if the level of coolant ever dropped below where the water sensor was it read of course the heated air and gave a false reading.

Hope this helps. The opening right below your thermostat might have a block plug in it right now if the previous owner had the sensor located in either of the other two locations..just remove it to install your water temp sensor. Remember to put pipe tamp on the threads to reduce chance of leaking.

Take care

Dave
