I LIKE the covered headlamp alteration.

I "Personally" DON'T like the Frog look when the headlamps are up!.

It would be an interesting experiment if there are 2 exactly identical Panteras, other than 1 having covered headlamps & the other the pop-up headlamps, how many MPH the pop-up headlamps detract from Top Speed?!...Mark

a) Really? Are you nuts? If you are driving that fast at night, you are driving way too fast. The car/driver with the pop-up headlamps would probably have better chance of not dying, but not by much!

b) Of course, it's not too hard to do this experiment yourself. Just run her up to 150 or so and do a coast down test with the HLs down and up. From the deceleration one can calculate (knowing the mass of course) the force (drag) which then can be used to calculate the HP difference needed for a given speed, or the speed difference for a given HP. My guess is that it's not a whole lot and probably not worth even thinking about given a) above. Let us know what your test results are. Raw results are OK, we can do the math.

As mr Lamborghini said when customer complained that the headlights on the Miura was pressed down by the wind at high speed: "A real gentleman has better things to do at night than racing..."
To ALL those concerned about myself driving at ungodly speeds at night, My thought was merely hypothetical & NOT based on factual high speed conclusions.

Although next time I'm tracking my DeTomaso Pantera at Laguna Seca, I'm going to test my theory gunning down the front Grand Stand Straight-a-way, should be about the same time I PASS the Veyron!!!...Mark

the shop hasn't finished the car as promised (but this is an other story)
Anyway .... My wife and I are happy and we hope having a tour on Easter together with a friend and his GT40. Hopefully the weather is good
Hello Marc; Does your friend have a REAL GT40, or did you mean the Ford GT?!...Mark

Hello Marc; WOW!!!...That's IMPRESSIVE!!...Pleased to know your friend actually DRIVES his multi-MILLION dollar GT40 instead of being hidden away in a temperature & humidity controlled vault.

Is the GT40 painted in the Gulf paint scheme?

If I may inquire, what other cars does your friend have possibly in his collection?...vielen dank!...Mark
Hi Mark..

he has money..believe me...but he bought the car 15 years ago when the rates where more or less realistic. He also owns an Aston Martin DB 9R,
Jaguar xj220, Porsche 964 rs and some other nice toys like a MV Augusta Oro series Senna edition.
And yes... It is sprayed in gulf colours.
Try to post a photo when we do the ride.
Car was driven twice the last 5 years...

He is now building a new house 30 mls away witha big garage for all his toys.

Guess why I cross fingers for good weather on Easter
Hello Marc; "Driven Twice in the last 5 years"...that's analogous to having a Super Model as a girlfriend & ONLY having SEX TWICE in 5 years!!!

I wonder what kind of racing provenance the GT40 has?!, Especially considers the Gulf paint scheme if in fact the Gulf paint scheme is original.

Is your friend per chance a lake front home owner on the Bodensee?

Please if you can take MANY photos of the GT40, especially of the rear clam shell open & the engine photographed.

Being a 1966 GT40 MKII is the engine the 7 litre version?

The 7 Litre being so DOMINATE it caused engine displacement rule changes in subsequent years.

All I can say is "WOW"!!!...the pinnacle of GT40s!!!...A 1966 GT40 MKII 7.0 Litre engine painted in the Famous Gulf paint scheme!!!

Appreciate Marc your indulgence to my myriad of questions as for myself after the 1955 Alloy Bodied Mercedes Gullwing being my "1" on my LUSTFUL Super Cars Wish List, the 1966 GT40 MKII 7.0 Litre engine Gulf paint scheme being number 2...Mark
OK - weather isn't very good today so I was working on some bits n' pieces. I was looking for a nice rear lid but as you know ..finding something for our car which looks nice and fits as well isn't nearly impossible.

Well.... here is the result (its not the final version) of an idea..

My wife an I think it matches perfect... looks like a little bit of 'old style' and may original ?

Have to measure the high. Btw.. It is the deck lid I'm talking about Wink
The Rear Deck Lid fitment/gap looks Extremely GOOD!

I see you utilized quick release deck lid pins.

I really LIKE the bumper delete look!!!

Does Germany have MOT inspection?

Is there some type of spoiler mounted to the rear deck lid?

Also did you delete the rear deck lid key?...Mark
Thanks,

Yes, we have MOT/Inspection in Germany (its called TÜV and more or less similar)and we have to shown our cars/motorcycles every 2 years. For me a Wing like 'countach & co' wasn't an option and the spoiler version of the old GT4 doesn't matches to the look, so I created my own rear lid to fill the gap in a nice and propper way.

Currently the carhasnt any manual key lock because I'm working on a invisible central look (thanks to my body shop who made a lousy job)

There are some things to do and it takes time but for me it is a positive challenge.
Hello Marc; Does TUV require a rear bumper?.

Although I am confused in the second picture of your DeTomaso Pantera by the location of the fluid cooler located directly below the pathway of HOT exhaust gases & pressed up against the rear valance body panel seemingly not allowing a flow of air "Through & over/past the cooling fins"...Mark
Hi Mark,

Bumpers are not relevant for TÜV if you are driving cars like ours. Differnt story
for latest cars ;-)

The photo didn't show the complete package. My body who ist working on Panteras for almost 20 years has desigend a diffuser which matches to the oilcooler and also seperate the airflow from the hot engine. Due to the 180° turning headers (which are cramic coated) we elimnated another source of hot air.
He is using this one on his two racing panteras with success. I'll be at Spa in Mai for the 6hours classic race and on the way (180 mls each way) there is enough time to check it. The engine has 100 mls on the speedo (after rebuild) so I have to treat it careful.

Still on my whish list are some rear diffuser for covering the Original Exhaust area and some floor mats as well (my wife wants it so I got a clear mesage). But first... enjoying the car together with my wife
