Hello
I'm trying to place the water temp sender on the block but didn't find exactly where to place it? Didn't find any plug where I can put the sender ?
Looking from the inside of the car , is it placed left or right of the thermostat ? Near the carb ? Left or right or front or rear of the distrib ? If someone has some pics or advice avalaible that would be great..
Thanks in advance
Thierry

I asked the same question from bosswrench awhile back when putting my engine back together. On the block right below the thermostat is a pipe threaded opening. It is there that you will want to screw in the water temp sensor.

Others have them on the water pump right below the heater hose connection but that location gives incorrect readings due 1) it being the return water temp and 2) it being close to the water pump recirculating fins and thus cavatation.

In the begining the factory put the water temp sender up on the swirl tank and this didn't work out so well either due to if the level of coolant ever dropped below where the water sensor was it read of course the heated air and gave a false reading.

Hope this helps. The opening right below your thermostat might have a block plug in it right now if the previous owner had the sensor located in either of the other two locations..just remove it to install your water temp sensor. Remember to put pipe tamp on the threads to reduce chance of leaking.

Take care

Dave
Thanks Dave
Actually the sender is where the factory placed it (swirl tank).
Sunday I tried to localize where to put it on the block but didn't find where ?
I'll have a much closer look below the thermostat soon!! Below : that makes it in between the block & the water pump ?
I'll let you know

Actually if you have the water pump off ( which I just did) and look into the upper opening on the passenger side of the block you will see that the opening for the sensor is in fact into the recirulation path below the thermostat to the pump. The tap in the pump is only inches away in the same water flow so will give the same readings. I use the tap in the pump for the sensor for my fuel injection and it gives the same readings as the guage in the block when they are compared.
