Something is amiss here. This weekend I put in an Ignitor kit to replace my points. Whenever I'm on the gas, the amp gauge maxs out and the oil pressure gauge goes to slightly over 35lbs. If I get off the gas and use the clutch, amps and oil pressure go back to normal. Another slight difference is that if I get on the gas from a stop, the car sometimes has a miss at about 1500 rpm. It cleans up nicely after that. It almost backfires through the carb. Anyone have any idea what I screwed up or where I should atert looking for answers? Maybe there ignition is now working the way it is supposed to and exposed the next weakest link. Thanks all again. I couldn't do this with out you guys. Vince

Vince; Check your timing again, the total timing should be 36 degrees @ 2800 rpm, 14 degrees @ idle, if vacumm advance is working and the springs inside the dizzy are ok then you should get 36~38 degrees total timing. this should correct the backfire and stumble (your carb. may also influence the stumble). The gauge readings maybe influenced by the alternator speed or some other electrical glitch......
