Sure, I would prefer that too.

Pictures, pricing & contact info has always been requested, but not demanded. I've cleaned up the wording in the yellow box in the cars for sale forum & added similar wording to the parts for sale forum.

What you are asking Mark & I to do is to delete any post in these forums that does not include a price. Sometimes a person may have a valid reason why the pricing has been kept private. If we made a rule that all ads without a price will be automatically deleted without notice, then the seller of those cars or parts would simply not advertise them on our forum.

I think it is better if they are advertised, price or not. The more items advertised here, the better chances our members have of finding that car or part they are looking for. If ads without pricing stresses you out, please just ignore them.

The way I've seen it done, users, not just moderators, usually respond to non-priced ads saying, "Forum rules state you must post a price." Then if the ad isn't corrected in a few days, then yes, it is deleted.

And since there is only 1 active Pantera message board, if people don't advertise here, where would they advertise elsewhere for free? The antiquated email list I suppose, but here they can post pictures too.

Anyway, just a suggestion...

Matt, although I do agree it is nice to see an up front price displayed, I don't believe it is absolutely necessary or that such a detail need have a cast in stone rule. As George says it, I agree it will lead to people not advertising on the board. I also don't believe people advertise here just because it is for free, it is because they have something to offer back to community members. Often members are true to the spirit of Pantera ownership and are prepared to sell parts herein to fellow members at a lower price than they might easily obtain on Ebay for instance (even after fees). That is commendable and can only be good for all of us.

I have purchased parts from this forum, both with and without posted prices. If I need the part, as a buyer I have no problem contacting the seller for his price or to make an offer. The flip side to not posting prices from the seller’s perspective is that they will likely receive numerous e-mail contacts requesting the price and unfortunately only a small proportion of those that ask for the price or show interest usually have any intention of making a purchase.

I would also like to say we should be mindful not to 'diss' the so called "Antiquated" list; these are our fellow brethren and the list serves as much a function as this forum. Not everyone has access to the internet (especially at work) and many still feel more comfortable in an e-mail forum. George has done and immense amount of work behind the scenes to rebuild bridges between the two communities and that effort is commendable. Many (like I) that use this forum, subscribe to the e-mail list as well, because they do have different memberships for the aforementioned reasons. However, that said I do note a wind of change within the last 6 months or so where, there is more crossover between the two forums and where posts are being duplicated in both. Again I think that this is at least in part to George's efforts and can only be a positive step as it helps strengthen and broaden the Pantera community.

Well, from my inexperienced point of view, as I change parts I often list the old ones for sale. But since I have no idea what they are worth I ask for offers. If the actual value is low (as it usually is) I just end up giving them away. It's better to give than receive.

Anyhow, that's one dumb reason why you really shouldn't demand prices be listed.
I'm new here, don't even own a Pantera yet, but still I have an opinion. I've read both the pros and cons of the proposed rule for "Must Post Price". It seems to me it is a reasonable request to ask people to post a price when they want to sell their car or car part. It makes for a much smoother running board when everyone can see a reference point for price when searching to buy something. If the seller isn't sure what they want for their car or part, the onus should be on the seller to do their due diligence BEFORE they advertise. If after doing their DD they still aren't sure what their car or car part is worth, they can put an asking price with an "OBO" next to it. That way depending on demand the seller can either go up or down on his/her asking price. But at least the potential buyer will have a atarting reference point for the all important consideration when contemplating buying something- that being Price. My vote is that you must post price when offering to sell something here.

When I see items posted without pricing or details as "for sale" I always ask myself, Is it? Seems reasonable to know what price you want for something if you offer it for sale and why not put the effort into describing it adequately to cut out all the back and forth?

On the other hand, it's understandable if you don't know something's value, or your willingness to sell is contingent upon price. But isn't that what auctions are for?

I don't know if it's practical for PI at this time, but could PI consider adding secure purchasing to the store, and while you're at it, add an auction feature to this board? Does Groupie support any auction-like features? It could possibly be a source of revenue to help support this board and PI's ability to continue to support the marque.

Just a suggestion.

Yeah I don't like rules either. Besides these would be easy to circumvent. I could just say twelve million or best offer. There is a price, but also saying, make an offer. Rules are not going to make it any easier or harder to buy or sell. Buying and selling sucks, owning rules!!!
I have to agree. When I see a newspaper or for sale sign on a car and there is no price you can pretty much assume that they want to much and they know they want too much. I always fall for it and ask the price and 99% of the time they have some inflated figure not worth negotiating. My rule of thumb is not to even acknowledge an ad without a price. They want more than it's worth and are embarassed to post a price themselves. Just my couple of pennies
