Hudson, I've had my car for 23 years and this is the first time I have ever seen someone looking for an "original" antenna base, you slay meBig Grin

I'll go check in the garage.
Twenty years ago I put the original stuff away knowing someday it would be worth a fortune.

Wait a minute, weren't the antenna bases added by dealers when they were delivered state side.
Would there have been a specific antenna or would they have used what they had in the parts dept?
I slay myself! Hey, you might have a point there - my radio was absolutely added later (have the reciept from the original owner) and as such, maybe the 'original' antenna is a crock of crayolas.

I have found some Mustang ones of the era that look nearly identical (rectangular base) and quite fairly priced. See if you have one in your vast stockpile though, and let me know if it's got a 'ridge' in the middle.

Oh, and I'll give you TWELVE DOLLARS for all that stuff! I don't even need to see it all, and I'll even pay for shipping!

Lastly, I can't decide whether your avatar turns me on or creeps me out since that lady must be 103 years old now.

Thanks Murph,
Hudson,

I have a 74. Antenna is mounted on the right (passenger) fender. The antenna was removable from the base. The base stayed on the fender. In time the antenna connection corroded and it would not hold the antenna "wip".

I found a replacement, same size and type antenna, (same size and type base) at the local Canadian Tire Store - $12. It is an antenna for Chrysler cars. Why don't you try your local PEP Boys or AutoZone ?

Was there a "standard" antenna fitted by dealers when the cars were new??

For all you 'original' freaks, here is what was really original.

The cars came off the docks with...

No outside rear view mirrors. They were NOT in the car's interior, not a specific part specified by De Tomaso. LM dealers added a standard Ford mirror, sometimes left and right.

No radio. Again, not in a box on the front seat, not an invoice listed option. Sure, there were standard styles in use in that time, some even had a vertical aligned faceplate. But none were original.

Likewise, no radio antenna. See above.

If you want something 'typical' for the year of import, that is is different story.

But true original means you will have a proper LM radio delete plate in the console, no outside mirrors and no radio antenna.

And in related modes, you will have 7" & 8" Campies, all red lens tail lights, still have the spring spacers installed, use the stock Autolite carb, etc, etc.

Not too many Panteras out there that are 100% original. I'd be surprised if there are more than ten here in the states that truly qualify

Larry
There was no "factory installed radio / antenna", but there is a radio and antenna listed in the Pantera parts book. D16Y 18805-A is a radio, speakers, and antenna kit for the Pantera. It used a vertical dial Bendix radio. I've only seen a few of these, I have the radio, but not the speakers or antenna. D16Y 18813-A is listed as an antenna, but I don't know what it looks like. The Bendix radio has an extra lead to operate a power antenna, but I don't know if either of those part numbers included a power antenna. The D16Y 18813-A says "manual", so I'm guessing that's a telescoping type antenna.
Here's a picture of the Bendix radio.

Just to reinforce what Larry said my 74 has the antenna mounted on the left side - drivers side and has a round base and the mast is telescopic as opposed to a removable fixed mast.

Ed...
And mine has no base at all! Just a small hole in the driver's side fender with a retractable telescoping antenna - the button on top of the antenna sits flush with the top of the fender when down, like a small chrome button. Don't know when it was added to the car, but I do know it's been there for at least 30 years.
The info we in the U.S have always gone by (no radios or antennas in factory-delivered cars) seems to be in conflict as far as Euro Panteras vs U.S ones. U.S. Panteras got no factory radios or antennas- they were always a 'dealer-install- option', but factory records show some Euro-delivered Panteras, during the Ford era and afterwards, got both from the factory. So privately imported cars could have one or both. Another odd thing about U.S cars is, if there was no radio as-factory-delivered, where are all those radio-delete plates DeTomaso must have installed? The landfills around Long Beach and New Jersey must be full of them.... All this is why its so darn hard to figure out exactly whats "stock" and whats not on Panteras. It varies depending on where the thing was first sold.
Mine ended up being 'most similar' to the ones for that era Mustang/Torino. An ebay search will generate lots of candidates. If you want a 'power' antenna, you can order a Hirshman (I did) and mated it to the 'original' base I had. LOOKS PERFECTLY NORMAL.

My mistake however is that the antenna mast is too long. All the way up, it pierces rain clouds, so check the 'extended length' before you buy an antenna (or Viagra for that matter.)
My '71 was delivered to the LM dealer without the radio installed. The car was sold with the radio "option", and the dealer installed the Becker radio, speakers, and power antenna after the car was sold. The antenna was mounted in the left fender. I don't know if the radio was delivered to the dealer with the car, sent directly from the factory, ordered separately, or ???
