Thanks guys! Now that I'm over the hill I should be picking up speed - that's how it works, right?

I guess it's time to get some reading glasses, Ensure, prune juice, 'Just for Men', Hai Karate, Poly Grip, suspenders, a phone next to the bed so I can order stuff on late night TV, black socks for when I mow the lawn, and I know, I know, I have to set up an appointment with my doctor.

David, they closed the Hooters, so no more car shows at that venue Frowner (sorry guys, I know how much you look forward to the photos)

Aside from me entering the human race, I got to wondering what other major events occurred in the world in '65 ... It's strange how some of these things feel pre-historic to me, while others I can hardly believe are actually 50 (admittedly, I really wasn't aware of any of this stuff as it happened) ...

The Maple Leaf becomes Canada's official flag
Aleksei Leonov is the first person to 'walk' in space
First successful recording on an Optical Disc (CD) in a lab, and the first use of the term 'Hypertext'
Arrival of the Miniskirt

In Music:
Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead form in San Francisco, The Who release "My Generation", the Beatles release "Help" and "Rubber Soul", the Stones release the single "Satisfaction" (Other major hits of '65 from the likes of Elvis, Sonny & Cher, Roger Miller, Tom Jones, the Beachboys etc. were... 'Crying in the Chapel', 'I Got You Babe', 'King of the Road', 'Help Me, Rhonda', 'Downtown', 'Unchained Melody', 'Like a Rolling Stone', 'California Girls', 'Eve of Destruction', 'May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose', 'For Your Love', 'It's Not Unusual') ... Ever a revolving door, The Yardbirds lost Eric Clapton, but picked up Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. Keith Moon bought his first case of cherry bombs and hotel bathrooms were no longer places of quiet reflection. Herbie Hancock released "Maiden Voyage", and Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club opens at 47 Frith Street.

In Theaters:
Audiences were treated to Mary Poppins (late '64, '65 in most markets), The Sound of Music, Dr. Zhivago, Goldfinger (late '64, '65 in most markets) AND Thunderball, and Beach Blanket Bingo.

In Racing:
The Ford GT40 won it's first race, the Daytona 2000 in Feb. 1965 with Carroll Shelby at the helm and Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby driving. Ferrari took 1,2 & 3 at LeMans. F1 was dominated by British drivers with Jim Clark, Graham Hill and rookie Jackie Stewart taking 1, 2 and 3.

So, it looks like a lot of cool stuff gets to turn 50 with me!

I can not argue with that part. '65 was a great year!

I hope you have a fun night planned. I heard that some of your Hooters friends were coming to visit. Big Grin

Mark
Sorry guys, no visits from ex Hooters' staff. But, at least now I know how Mark found out about the day!
My wife apparently snagged my cell one morning while I was in the shower and searched through it for names and numbers of the Pantera crowd, then started phoning 'til someone answered (it was Mark) - is there NO privacy in the world???

A month ago she asked if I wanted a party for my birthday, I'd said no - apparently she took that as I didn't want a single party, so she arranged 2, one with my family, and another with friends ... I walked into both completely unawares. I'm obviously slipping in my old age, I usually know when something is up, but she and the kids blindsided me twice ... not good, I'll have to step up my level of paranoia and start sleeping with both eyes open instead of just one Eeker
