I have no idea what the original ones were like as far as quality is concerned, but I bought a Radio blanking plate, from where I cannot remember, it did cost me £18! It was of such poor quality, I had much sympathy for the trash bin it immediately went in. I pushed in an old none working radio, which looked far better.

The entire point of these things is to provide what is likely a temporary patch inexpensively.

In this day of being able to make anything on a three way mill I've never seen even an attempt at making anything substantial from something like a piece of aluminum plate.

Maybe a 3d printer could do a better job?

The later original blanking plate was plastic with a chromed edging finish. The reproductions are in keeping with the original design, but I haven't seen one in the flesh to assess quality.

Prior to the reproductions coming available originals were selling for $300+
