What does an original timing pointer look like for 1972? This photo is from Mike Dailey's website. The car is a 1971 and the pointer is way different than what I have. The pointer is held on by one bolt and there seems to be an extra arm with a "knob" on the end. I found the same style pointer on a 72 Pantera #3613 too.

The open loop thingy on the end of the timing mark was for a sensor used by Ford dealers. It dropped into the hole so they could check ignition timing without a separate light. Later, the factory discontinued degree marks on balancers altogether and only used this device; the original pre-computerized-engine smog laws were designed to make changing ignition timing more difficult for owners. Thank your elected members of Congress for all such mechanical nonsense.
