I tried to install my Edelbrock Performer intake today with the turkey pan and side gaskets. I could get 6 of the 3/8s bolts in only and they didn't turn freely. I removed the pan gasket and it fit perfect. My block has been decked and the heads have been surfaced. The geometry of course is not the exact same but the surfaces should mate right ? All the Aussies that are running the 2V heads don't use a pan gasket , they use a FP1240 gasket set. Does the FP 1240 fit the 4V heads? Has anybody had this issue?

Yes, you have changed your geometry. Would opening up the turkey pan gasket bolt holes solve the problem?
I know there are some that still use the turkey pan, but I have not used one in recent memory

The heat shielding of the turkey tray is a nice idea but has given many grief on new installations.
It needs the original factory installed dowels in the heads to keep it in place as you drop the manifold.
It isn't really a necessary item so just do away with it and use the paper gaskets.
The hardware is new, the holes are clean, the dowels are in place and the manny fits without the pan. Its going together without the pan! The pan is going in the trash.
It used to be a popular mod to take a used turkey tray and cut the intake sections off with tin-snips. Then the tray simply fits loosely between the block and intake since its now only a hot oil splash shield. There are other more elegant ways to keep the intake cool but the modified turkey-tray works too.
I think that you are better off not using the tray.
If you trim it you run the risk of it not sealing the oil out completely and if that happens it will just become a reservoir for oil unable to escape back into the engine drain back system.
You might want to place a drain hole in the bottom to reduce that risk?
