Hi,

I misposted this in the parts section. I have had my 72 Pantera since last June. I have black US spec bumpers and I recently picked up a set of US chrome bumpers on EBay which were described as 72 square end bumpers. When I went to fit them they did match the mounting holes on either the front or the back. On closer inspection my rear bumpers were slightly longer. I read a link on Pantera Place about different bumpers in 71, not 72. Is it accurate that these are in fact 71 bumpers? Separately, would these fit my car if I redrilled the holes? Not sure I want to do that but it seems difficult to get the US spec bumpers. Thanks, Shashi

I'm not sure if its a '71 vs.'72 thing or if if its a difference between the round and square bumpers. I found a similar difference when I replaced my '71 front bumperettes with Euro spec ones. I opted to move the mounts on the bumpers instead of drilling more holes. Welding may discolor the chrome though. Mine were going to be replated anyway so it wasn't an issue.
Sure you can. For me, finding a chrome shop has been a PITA. With so many EPA regulations I imagine quite a few small shops have been driven out of business. I talked with one guy at a show who found one by word of mouth. It was literally in the backwoods. Probably to hide from the feds. I have no idea how the shops in Ca. can stay in business. I tried shopping on line and usually got no response. Maybe its just too small a job. Plus I'd like to find someone relatively local so I can drop them off to get a feel for their operation and pick them and look at the finished pieces before handing over the payment.
Usually a couple of weeks. Cost comes down to how much work is required to get the finish right. My TC grill cost me right at $350.00 and it required a fair amount of smoothing.
Go to their website and call Al. I'm sure you can get a close estimate if you send him shots of the bumpers. They are small and mostly straight so I would think they could get through the process without too much work.
Stripping the paint may also save you some cash.
