I'm considering options for changing my air cleaner configuration. My Holman Moody intake is taller than most of the other commonly utilized intakes and I've got that topped with a Holley 750dp. My current air cleaner is approx 13 inches in diameter with recessed base and labeled "Ford." The filter is a standard K&N (approx 2 1/4 inches?) All this just BARELY clears the stock engine cover and the cleaner extends over an inch underneath the rear deck lid.

I'd like to add a carb spacer but I clearly don't have the room. Even if I forgo the engine screen, I still have the deck lid to contend with.

From what little I could find it seems 13 inch diameter isn't unusual for a Pantera air cleaner. And in most of the cars I've seen the edge of the cleaner is well beyond the rear deck lid. Is this a consequence of the Holman Moody design?

I'm not swapping my intake anytime soon so I'm looking at options for going to a smaller cleaner and then will contend with the screen issue. I'm not totally adverse to going without but I would prefer to retain the sides. I've contacted midenginemike regarding his nifty fabricated cover with a cut out for the screen. Although this application would clearly depend on where the carb is centered.

Any thoughts?

I've got a dog bone aka holley hammerhead that works great, but i'm in the process of having a new one fabricated. I have a high rise single plane intake, an HVH Spacer and a race demon, so it sticks up very far. In fact the new one i'm putting together has a 4" tall filter, and will be 17" wide so basically blocking most of the rearview window. But when I'm driving everyone is behind me anyway Wink I'll post up pics once its done.
