Anyone have a good recommendation on how to remove brake fluid from the front trunk felt. The hydrolic line to the clutch master has a small leak that has put a cup worth into the felt. Carpet cleaner seems to remove a lot but it still has the slick feel to it.

If not, any "how-to's" on replacing carpet felt?

thanks Rick

Rick,

I am far from an expert on the subject, but I do know that brake fluid is VERY hydroscopic (meaning it absorbs water). I would assume pouring plain tap water on the fluid should neutralize the fluid, then soak up the mess with a towel as best you can then let it air dry.
Brake fluid is also very corrosive, so expect that the paint under the felt will begin to lift and peel (if it hasn't already) and also develop surface rust. Spray/soak the area with simple green and blot it dry with an old towel. Repeat.

If your felt still adheres where the brake fluid was spilled, then the paint has not lifted.
I had a couple of cups of it in my front trunk. I tried sprinkling water on it and dabbing it with rags. I did this over and over, but that never got rid of the slick feel.

What worked great was I soaked it with water (I used a windex type spray bottle filled with water) and followed with the shop vac to suck it up - almost at the same time.

I did this several times. Eventually the carpet was clean of brake fluid but was lifting as the shop vac sucked it away from the glue that was now gone. I just kept watering and sucking up the liquid.

Then I placed a fan blowing directly on the wet area and left it overnight (or longer) and the next day it was clean and bone dry. No more slick feel.

I checked out the surface below the carpet. The paint and glue were gone. But no rust or corrosion. Eventually I will add some glue, but it really isn't necessary. The carpet's not going anywhere.
