Bronze Gear

A question for you engine builders out there.
I reciently installed a newly buildt 393ci cleveland. My engine builder replaced the distributer gear with a new bronze gear. Well as thing would go, my distributer locked up on me and I had to replace it. The new distributer has what looks to be a steel or cast gear.
What was the reason for the bronze gear, should I have the steel gear replaced with bronze on the new distributer?

What cam are you using? The distributor gear material depends on the cam gear.
