I've been reading many posts regarding carb recommendations, however, most are quite old with non-working links/etc. I am looking for the latest thoughts on this subject - I am sure there are many opinions!

The last owner of 02605 decided to use a Quick Fuel 750 E85 carb set up and it is horrible. I do not want to bother with E85 - I don't see the need for it in a Pantera that isn't supercharged and will never see a dragstrip!

My Pantera (built Feb 1972) has the original open chamber heads, stock D1ZE-9425-BB manifold, ANSA headers/mufflers and I am told by one of the prior owners that they put domed pistons in when the engine was rebuilt (bored .030 over, 11:1 compression). The cam specs are unknown.

The car will be used for spirited driving, cruising and car shows. I am coming out of a 2008 Porsche Turbo that had 500hp so I do enjoy brisk acceleration.

I am looking to confirm the carb CFM sizing, mech or vac secondaries, and I am open to buying a new intake if needed.

I really appreciate the advice as I am trying to make a decision quickly!

My car buddies and I blast around to cruise-ins and Cars & Coffees in the region during the driving season--over 2,300 miles of cruising in my Pantera for 2021! So, I opted for a 600cfm Summit carburetor with vacuum secondaries when I replaced my tired, old Edelbrock carb during my 2018-2019 winter projects. The carb sits on top of an Edelbrock Performer 2V intake feeding the Edelbrock heads. Engine has a mild Crane cam (HMV-278-2). Engine runs good and healthy enough for "spirited driving", IMHO.

Bob Oliver also rebuilt a 700 Holley double pumper for our Pantera, after I tried unsuccessfully to make a brand new Holley work, alomg with four other used Holleys of various sizes. Most of what Holley sold back then were CA smog compliant carbs, and were impossible to tune to actually run right. Bob mentioned that he had to make jetting changes and over a dozen drillings and tweeks to a new in-the-box Holley, to work properly on a Cleveland.

A week later we drove 500 miles one way to 'Vegas and got more power while gaining 2 extra miles per gallon on the road including the Track Event. What he does goes far beyond just changing jets and pump squirters. Reportedly, Quick Fuel does much the same to a Holley 650. This is NOT a simple bolt-on!
