One way is to look for a manufacturer's casting/part number or ID mark. On the long-throw units, vendors who originally discovered this cross-reference, routinely grind off all the ID marks to protect their sources. On a stock slave, "A.T.E" and "9" is cast between the snap-ring grooves; another has "b.i." stamped on the back end near the bleed screw. Plus. most lomg-throws are corrosion proof stainless steel while all stock ones are cast iron. The final check is to see what size feeler gauge can be slipped between the clutch disc & flywheel (thru the bellhousing access hole) with the clutch pedal fully pressed down. If an 0.030 gauge cannot go in, you NEED a long throw to save your ZF synchros!
