Cut outs in stock floors?

I always assumed they were to let water OUT in case there was a flood inside the car.

I thought they were in case your passenger pee'd their pants and you had to remove the seat and wash the carpet & floor pan!

If your passenger had a very large bladder, that might cause a flood.

And then there are the rubber plugs in the floor. You use these if the slots don't drain fast enough? But then if it gets really deep, the e brake slot kicks in. I am so relieved that they put so much thought into this!...As an aside,is there supposed to be some sort of seal around the e brake arm where it goes thru the floor? Seems like that would be a high pressure area with some pretty hot air.

While they may drain some water, it was my understanding that the large holes on each side is where the body was positioned on assembly fixtures and the smaller slits at the end of the indentations in the floor pan was to lessen the "tin canning" sound in the floors. Since I'm in the early stages of restoration, the large holes will be plugged and the smaller slits will have a flexible body mastic covering the slits. From the Pantera parts illustration book, there was no provision for enclosing the emergency brake slot.

That makes sense as it explains why the other piece is welded on the under side around the hole. I put some black silicone on the cut outs. Also, this is what I came up with for the e brake slot. I will glue it on with a little contact cement.
