Any vehicle (such as the Pantera) which supplies current directly to the ignition through the ignition switch MUST be rewired as shown below because dirty, oxidized or burned switch contacts will create a voltage drop across the ignition switch and limit the voltage and current supplied to the ignition.

A crankshaft triggered, wasted spark (4 coil) distributorless ignition system (DIS) more precisely fires the ignition coils each and every revolution of the crankshaft, the ignition timing is more consistent from cylinder to cylinder, all of the timing functions are set electronically and operate perfectly forever, there is nothing mechanical to wear out or service. Unlike single coil distributor ignitions in which performance falls off at high RPM a DIS provides full spark energy at any real-world engine speed. With a DIS there is no spark scatter, no cross-firing and no misfiring.

(I) Ford EDIS-8 ignition system

The least expensive way to build a distributorless ignition is the Ford EDIS-8 because most of the parts can be acquired at the wrecking yard. This ignition shall also appeal to those enthusiasts who prefer to use Ford parts. The donor vehicle is normally an early Ford Explorer with a 5.0 V8 because it will have the correct trigger wheel for a small block Ford.
Parts to acquire include:

35 tooth (36-1) trigger wheel

Trigger sensor including mounting fixture

Coil packs (2 each)

The EDIS-8 ignition module

MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure)

All associated wiring harnesses:

(A) The cable to connect the trigger sensor to the module,
(B) The cables to connect the coils to the module
(C) The cable to connect the MAP sensor to the module
(D) The cable to connect the module to vehicle power

A Mega Jolt Lite Jr controller to work in conjunction with the EDIS-8 module replacing the functions of the EEC IV engine management computer. It allows the user to adjust the ignition timing parameters. The controller is configured via software using a laptop computer. Among its features are an external hard rev-limiting circuit and user selection of how much ignition timing advance is utilized during starting.

(II) Electromotive Engine Controls XDi ignition system

The Electromotive Engine Controls XDi ignition system features a 58 tooth trigger (60-2) wheel for greater timing accuracy and the ignition module is configured via switches and potentiometers, no software or computer is used when configuring the ignition. If you prefer using a laptop Electromotive offers the XDi-2 module #016-60000. XDi computes the exact dwell to produce 9 amps of coil current. Coil charging is measured dynamically, so changes in RPM, battery voltage, or temperature are all accounted for on every spark. The module includes a rev limiter and a starting circuit to assist motors that are difficult to crank. The system been on the market since 1987, it has been installed on several Panteras and as far as I know the reliability is solid. The list of components includes:
