Jassper at Granatelli Motor Sports in Oxnard California asked me to pass along information about a Dyno Day opportunity that may be of interest to DeTomaso owners in the Ventura County, San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita areas (or anyone willing to make the trip to Oxnard). If you've been curious to know what the horsepower of your car's motor is, here's an inexpensive opportunity to find out.

The Dyno Day shall be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2013.

They have an above ground Mustang Dyno (which is more accurate that an Dyno Jet).

The fee to get your car dyno'd will be $50 if you pre-register, or $65 the day of the event.

Their location is:

Granatelli Motor Sports
1000 Yarnell Place
Oxnard, CA 93033
805-486-6644 x 23

They'll have raffles, food, and also prizes for vehicles who make the most horsepower in their class.

More information, including a pre-registration form, can be found at the page linked below:

Dyno Day Event Page on Facebook

If you are interested in pre-registering, just fill out the pre-registration form and either fax it back to Granatelli at (805-486-6684), or scan it and email it back to Jassper at his email (jassper@granatellimotorsports.com). If you have any questions, please feel free to call him at the number and extension below or send him an email.

Jassper says he hopes to see you on September 21st!

Went to the Granatelli Dyno Day this am and within minutes of arrival found myself somewhat intimidated. A Nissam "R" type was up on the dyno and finished with 815hp & 1034 torq! Next was an "03 Lancer AWD @ 494hp. Some newer Camaros clocked-in the high 4's to mid 5's. Well, my '71 was the oldest car by 30 yrs (I was the oldest guy by about the same amt) and #2098 achieved 295 rwhp and 315tq. 6600 is the MSD limiter and the highest rpm run was 5145.

When asked about the data I now have something factual to say and therefore I'm pleased with the day. Oh, and the chief tech did mention that the Pantera did sound the best of all the cars run.
#2098 is a 55k mile car and has the original engine with the following; .030 overbore, Ford Racing 4V closed chamber heads, ported/polished, alloy roller rockers, all balanced and blueprinted, a Edelbrock Victor Series intake is topped by a Demon carb The Comp grind is 32.264.4. The idle is smooth at 1000 rpm and with empty Ansa's is pleasantly noticeable to all within earshot.

Being the only red car at the event assured that it was the best looking.

Thanks for your interest.
Thanks for letting me know George, I bet there would be a quite a few more ponies there if she went over 6000 rpm with that set up. I think 295 at 5200 is pretty darn good. #4629 near bog stock was still making power at 5500 when I shifted so yours with those heads and intake surely has more.

Just on a funny? side note, after owning and driving the car for the last couple of months my brother asked me "what does she rev to" in which I replied "I don't actually know"? I was a little surprised at my answer considering I had given it a good kick in the guts on a few occasions. So one day I made an effort to pay attention. Once I did it it dawned on me why I didn't know, you can't see the bloody tacho because some idiot put the steering wheel in the way!

A stock 351C normally pulls about 220 to 240 bhp on a chassis dyno

For reference, my stock 351C with 100,000 miles made 250 bhp at the rear wheels on the chassis dyno.

Details below:
  • Original open chamber heads
  • Edelbrock F351 (Performer predecessor) intake
  • Holley 670cfm Avenger carb
  • Mallory Unilite electronic distributor
  • Hall big bore headers with original Ansa mufflers (non-GTS)

"But officer, the steering wheel and my hand block the speedometer. I can't see anything below 120 mph."
I once got out of a speeding ticket once by showing the officer how you can't see 0-120 on the Speedo because the steering wheel is in the way.
