My 72 Euro GTS, has the door and window surrounds in Satin black, and the boot and bonnet were painted shiny Black?
My car is now all one colour RED.

I am told that for the satin black items, bumpers flutes and window surrounds, Satin paints are all TOO glossy and that the best way to paint them is to use a rattle can to get a more Matt effect. This does work for small areas, but for your bonnet and boot a good painter can get a more Matt paint if he is good, mine did.

good luck. Peter.
Hi Mat
Mine were originally a poor quality Matt Black but you could not touch them without leaving a mark so I then had them painted Gloss and it did not look right but was much easier to keep clean especially after washing but Pantera ownership has nothing to do with 'easy' or 'simple' so I've had them painted a good quality mat and use a silicone blade straight after I wash the car this eliminates most of the water staining I then use a damp cloth soaked with soft water and this totally eradicates any staining. I hope this helps'
So considerations are my car only sees water maybe two or three times a year and the matt NEVER gets close to any type of wax or polish.
Good luck.
Hey Stellios, great advice about washing the Matt black paintwork, thanks nad hope to get to meet up again soon. Comp2 what a great colour combo, perfect. We are at the Matt black paint stage with my car, we considered all paint options i.e. Base and Matt lacquer, two pack, and then decided on a acrylic single pack for the exact same reasons as Comp 2 stated. I am not a painter, so to be useful I elected to do the flatting and cleaning up, and as Comp 2 will probability agree (by the footprints in the overspray picture of rear deck lid) that Matt black paint gets everywhere I was covered from head to foot cleaning up! A pics of LHS, tape just removed next week bonnet and boot, fingers crossed all goes well.

Ron, that's exactly the look I was hoping for but skinny body GTS spec, I have looked everywhere for a car in these colors!!! I think you got It right, bias, but got to be the best combo. I like the decals, but I have gone for the traditional, but may change now, lol.

Thanks for the pic and as blue goes I'm feeling a bit green.

Richard.
TX Team for all the nice info and experience...

going classic 2K (NO Water base color) Red rosso fuoco from the 70th..Maserati & Ferrari used it as well, is a nice dark red.

The shiny back is BMW 181 from the end 70th but I did not like it as the apperence of the metall parts did stick out too much.

Hence Hood and bonnet go matt black. A lot of the new cars Porsche, Mercedes, Maserati etc. offer full body with this matt flavour. High end color used these days, understand the issue with finger prints. Will have an other chat with my ITALIEN PAINT shop Monday....get you the pictures as painting happens next week...

I've been using this. It has a nice finish to it. It has a nice hardness and isn't particularly susceptible to hand marks, etc.

It is really great on stuff like suspension parts, the L bumpers and other sheetmetal like the engine covers.

I did my roll bar with it. It looks and feels like powder coating.

I'm in a repainting stage and am going to use it below the "belt line"

Since it uses a hardener it is resistant to the usual "flat black" discolorations.

Incidentally, probably a lot of what some are experiencing with the lack of flat or semi black finishes is caused because it is "rattle can" paint and has no hardener in it?

Try it. I think you will like it.

I personally think that the shiny/flat balance is JUST RIGHT.

Try it on something small first. Let it cure. It dries to the touch in about 20 minutes and is safe to handle in about an hour but unless you put it in a heat booth, it will take something like 48 hours to really start to get hard.

Something else I noticed with it, it developes a type of texture to the finish that comes from the pressure of the spray gun.

I like it, BUT to get it VERY fine, you need to dilute it down and use less air pressure.

YOU WILL have fun playing with this paint in that regards. You can get different effects with it. When it is fully cured it ALMOST makes the feel of the paint feel like it's some kind of molded plastic.

It would be good for a pick up truck bed OR if you wanted something different on the underside of the floor, this would be nice.

You really need to use a "y2K" primer with it. That uses a hardener also.

I just keep finding new uses for it. I made a cabinet for my bathroom with it over oak.

It lets the wood grain show through and if you spill something on it, you just wipe it off.

Also, mildew does not seem to grow on it like a latex house paint would get.

Hum? Maybe I'll spray the entire outside of the house with it? Comes in various colors. Maybe Pantera Red or Plum Crazy purple? Smiler

This particular paint is absolutely striking up against the Detomaso Pantera Red. It makes the red just jump at you. You need to be ready to duck.

I can't find a bath tub color that I like. I was wondering how the tub would come out if I sprayed it with this stuff? Big Grin

You don't need to wax it, just wash it down with car soap. Car soap won't take off the carnauba wax on the rest of the car. Dish washing detergent WILL since it is designed to remove grease and oil from your dishes.

I saw a Lambo done in the flat paint but it was more grey than black. An Aventador. Saw a Prosche 911 that was definitely flat black but didn't get a pic of it.

Here's a pic of the Lambo. Definitely flat gloss.

The truth is that the euro GTS had black metallic with matte clear coat.

I get the right color code from a guy that has painted to De Tomaso factory.

The euro GTS had black metallic with matte clear coat, on the hood, decklid and the lower part of the car.
The engine bay was also painted with the same black metallic with matte clear coat on all newer euro Pantera.

The underside of the hood, decklid and the trim parts was common matte black.
Until just now doing some European GTS investigation I was not aware that the factory had employed a different style with the lower black out treatment than the treatment used on the USA Ford and GTS cars.

I now see that your approach matches what the factory did.

I guess one never stops learning things about what Alejandro did with these cars.

Indeed. That will help...some.

You greatly raised/increased the black paint portions of your car's lower panels, which serves to visually elevate its appearance.

Any reason why you abandoned the factory's painting style of the lower panels?

Larry
Huh? 4 inches showing over the top of the tires has nothing to do with the black.

That is the US GTS black pattern isn't it?

The black has a nice glow to it. It almost has a texture to it too?
Hi,
just found this...we used this when we where boys
quartett on WW cars from 1986..provides some COLOR details...enjoy and smile...

p.s. have the set of 32 cards...
P.ss my car will be dark red and hodd and bonnet black but ONLY lower rocker painted black..might use some foil for the upper part..running through an estetic apperience test through the eyes of 2017 poluted fellow..
