Excuse my ignorance guys but

What are the two orifices in the block on the left hand side of this image for?

The smaller of two I imagine is for the dip stick but what is the other one for?

A small metal nipple gets pressed into the hole and the heater hose attaches to it.
The small one is ,in fact, for the engine oil dipstick.
The threaded one coming in from the front is for the temp sender and one of the ones in the water pump will be plugged.
