NO PROBLEM! I DID IT, REMOVED THE CANISTER ALSO. CLEANS UP THE LOOK OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. MAKE SURE YOU CAP THE VENT, UNLESS YOU LIKE TO SMELL GASOLINE FUMES. (I USED A HIGH QUALITY VACUMN CAP AND MINI HOSE CLAMP) BUT DON'T CAP IT UNLESS YOUR FUEL FILLER CAP IS VENTED, OR YOU WILL BUILD UP VACUMN IN YOUR FUEL TANK TO THE POINT THAT THE FUEL PUMP WILL BE INEFFICIENT! HOW DO YOU TELL IF THE CAP IS VENTED?? PUT THE INSIDE TO YOUR MOUTH AND SUCK, IF IT ALLOWS AIR TO PASS, YOUR IN BUSINESS!! GOOD-LUCK, MARLIN.
The hose from tank to charcoal cannister (the blue thing) can be unhooked & connected directly to the air cleaner, so the air that is sucked into the tank to replace gas going to the engine, is filtered. It will also allow tank fumes to burn in the engine instead of stinking up your garage. If you wish, the charcoal cannister is still available. All those stock vent hoses are probably dangerously brittle after 30 yrs, so replacement is urged.
