GEN Light on. Ideas?

My GEN light has started coming on as soon as I start the car. I am totally new to the Pantera so I'm reaching out to the group. The only change is I noticed the hot wire to the electric choke had been cut or broke (looked cut)I have reconnected it and that is about when I noticed the light. Not assuming the two are related. Any thoughts?

The two sure could be related. The choke thermostat is connected directly to the alternator! The choke connects to the stator lug which is identified by a black ring around the terminal. I would disconnect the choke wire and see if the "GEN" light goes off. If so, I would try a new choke cap.

One other thing to check is a faulty voltage regulator. It's located on the firewall and can be replaced by a $25 part from Canadian Tire (or even a Ford dealer if you have one that isn't totally stupid about not having a current part number).

When mine packed-up it also put a slow drain on (and thus flattened) the battery — which would not show up if you have (likely) a cut-off switch. If you have current on that wire when the key is off, change the regulator.
