"How do i dissconnect the hand brake cable from the callipers. i have removed the cap and the split ring but the pin moves about 5 mm then stops. dont want to force anything and can't see what it may be jamming on ant idears ? "

I simply can't tell what he's talking about. I'm looking at an exploded view of the whole caliper and there is no spilt--ring shown, so maybe he's working on the under-car bellcrank mechanism. In any case, the way to unfasten the cable from the brake is AT the brake, by pulling the short pin that attaches each cable to the eyebolt that spans the rotor. This in my view is held by cotter pins. And based on experience, the most likely reason for a frozen handbrake is rust in the cable(s) or in the case of an '87 GT5-S, undercoating that seeped thru the cable and locked the entire mechanism. This last problem & fix was thoroughly described in the Aug '99 POCA news. De-rusting an e-brake cable, especially one thats sat for awhile might best be done by removing the whole cable and soaking it in something like rust-converter.
My best guess at this time- J DeRyke
