The headlights on my 72 are very dim, especially the driver side. I just replaced them with new halogens from PIM and they are still dim. Thinking there might be a problem with the switch, I thought I would install the relays as suggested in various postings. Before doing that, however, I thought I would see if the headlights were brighter by just bypassing the switch entirely and hardwiring the lights on. They are still dim, which makes me think that the relays will not fix the problem. What else could it be? Any suggestions?

Hi I recently had this same problem. Although
your's may not be the same. I installed the relays and they were still dim. What I found out was my car wiring was wrong. The prong for the headlight ground was not to the chassis ground, but to one of the power prongs. At that point when I turned on the lights the power was going thur both low & hi beam filiments. Dull yellowish light.
I removed the connector inside the wheel well
carefully removed the small brass connectors
& put them back in correct order. BRIGHT!
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the insight guys. I spent some time with it last night and you are right the wiring is not compatible with the headlights. Ive corrected that, but have now discovered that my high beams are shorted to ground somewhere. As long as I leave the high beams disconnected, I can have low beams that are the correct brightness (Big improvement! It means I can actually drive at night now!). Ill repost once I find the high beam problem...
