Currently changing my twin pod dash to single pod and hit a bit of a problem with the heater. My chassis number is 5174.

With the new single pod the front heater vents are about an inch and half too low and don't line up. Only modification I can see on the heater is the side mounting brackets are proud at the top of the heater. If I remove them and make them flush with the top of the heater the vents will still be a good inch too low.

I have borrowed a heater from a factory fitted single pod dash model and apart from the side brackets being flush with the top and one or two of the side outlet pipes being different, the position of the vents are near enough the same when its fitted

Did a search on previous threads and understand this is a common problem amongst other things in changing over the dashes but no real answers.

Any clues as to whats going wrong here, any help or solutions much appreciated. (photos to follow). Where the inside front bulkheads below the windscreen/rear scuttle modified at all on later models and single pod dashes in order for the heater to fit.

Cheers

Its pretty well known that the heater/AC box was radically changed inside for single-pod dashes. The only similarity is how they bolt in and their external dimensions. You'd be far ahead of the game to find a '73-up heater box and swap the whole thing- including the lever controls and the outside air supply behind the glove box- into your car, along with the late (right-hand?) dash. Call a few of the vendors that part out Panteras; they occasionally turn up. Roger Brottan in UK might have the parts. I had a '74 heater box a few years ago (since sold) and nothing was the same inside compared to my '72.

A few people have successfully done this swap to early Panteras. It is a complicated, picky change of several expensive factory parts with questionable benefits. Certainly would be simpler to trade cars! Note the consoles are different too; a two-pod console won't fit up correctly to a single-pod dash...
