Heater valve nut, removeable?

I am considering moving my heater valve, the one that is bolted to the heater core in the dash.
Does the nut that stays on the heater core itself, turn on or can it be removed without cutting it off?
Do you know what type of fitting this is called or I need to ask for if I want to connect it straight to the heater hose?
What size is the heater hose required?
