To the best of my knowledge, the factory will not be able to help you with the Ford era cars, at least not those delivered to North America. Ford never turned the build documentation over to the deTomasos.

Ok so you mean to tell me we own these cars and there is no record of who and where the original purchase took place.... wow ....in this day and age ?? Ok when I get some time I will give it an honets effort.
The factory have some infos about the US cars as they was still built there.
They have 9000 files there.

The US records are on 3x5 index cards, had written.
They were assigned to a "Home Office Factory Rep", who's name escapes me and retired from Ford around 20 years ago as I recall.
You all have to remember that 1970 is well before the era of PC's.
Don't pick on Detomaso for bad records. Ford can't even tell you the exact number of US cars there are (were).

If Ford records are still around, that flies in the face of current Pantera thought, mainly they tossed it ALL into a dumpster back in the 70's.
If 3x5 cards are out there, we need to get them into the hands of the Pantera community before they get tossed out in some estate sale when the owner passes away.
Whoever has information on them needs to ACT and get possession of them. PLEASE!!

What if the car went to another country. My #1280 came from France. Do they have any way of locating previous owners?

I've seen the pre- and post-Ford records at DeTomaso. I looked at the records for my current car, #9375. It listed build options, color, and sold-to information. One half-sheet of paper.
I then looked at the records for my former '72, #3874, and there was even less information. Basically an acknowlegment that it was built, but nothing on "sold to" or options or anything.
There ARE factory records for the Ford-era cars sold in Europe. I saw the records for one of the Factory Group 4 racecars, and it was probably an inch thick, bulging with receipts, records, and photos. If your car was sold in France, it might contain more information than a US-car, but in any case the records are no longer available as the factory has closed.

It is more likely that you will find records at one of the Ford "sub-contractors". Someone like Strope who did work on "fixing" some of the problems on the early cars in Southern California.
What you guys are looking for are the invoices from Ford to the dealers.
Ask Lois Eminger. She doesn't have them but may be able to put you on to someone who does. She's retired quite awhile now so hurry if you want to talk to her.
There is or was a way to do a DMV search, state by state. You had to supply a serial number configuration and search all.
Since then California has put in an anti-staulking privacy act which eliminates a search from DMV records in California.
I had one of these reports previously done for SAAC. It had reports from 30 something states.
The others states were not obtainable.
Of course this also only helped for registered cars. It won't necessarily even find non-registered, titled cars.
I'll see if my sources have dried up. If they haven't I'll post the information I can find.

Well .. yesterday the ORIGINAL invoice showed up in my mail box from the factory.

In 79 it was a 12k car with 35% in import cost.
I'll have to translate to english from Italian.
Funny my car was a GTS made in the middle of 9137 # 9139 which were GT5's.

What is "Import Cost"? Import duties? 35% of what?
35% of the 12k = 16,937.00 back in 79. Didnt get to translate yet. Ive been busy making a rotisere for 6476. Almost done.

You mean $16,937 is 35% of $48391.43?
No the original purchase price from Detomaso was 12546.29 x 35% = 4391.20 = 16937.50 still didnt get much time to translate
