Question for you HVAC Experts,

I am in the middle of adding an HVAC system in my garage. Since I am a do-it-yourselfer, I have done most of the install myself.

My question is this, At what point do I need to call in a professional to finish the install or can I do the whole thing myself.

For example: I have run the new lineset but haven't soldered the connections to the evaporator or condenser yet. I have soldered copper joints before when doing home plumbing. Is it the same process? I saw a video recently that said it wasn't.

Next step, pressurize with nitrogen and test for leaks. Not sure I could do that without special equipment.

Evacuate system: I am pretty sure I cannot accomplish this step without a $300+ vacuum pump. A service call to connect the condenser should be less than the cost of a vacuum pump, right?

So again, where do I stop and call in a professional?

Thanks, Scott

Thanks for all the advice and offers to help!

Ron,

It is a split system that I got for free, so the price was right. I have a detached garage and so it isn't air conditioned or heated. Where I live it is either summer time or winter time. Not much in-between. It is regularly in the 100's during summer time so AC will be very nice to have out there!

Special thanks to Tony Ortiz who is in the biz and offered to help! Pantera owners are the best... I would even say they are AMAZING... Big Grin
