I've tried a couple of locksmiths and finally found one that was able to order in the right size key and make me a few spares.

In the image below, the key on the left is the one I got with the car (don't know if it is factory original or not), it's a Taylor X20. The next one was from the second locksmith I went to, it fits and works, but it is bulky with a very long shoulder - it's an Ilco X82 which also has the stamps MB41 and on the back it says "For Mercedes". The third key is from the third locksmith, he ordered in 10 blanks and I had him cut me 3 keys as spares, they're labeled Ilco X20 and also have FC2 on the face - it's pretty close in size/shape to the Taylor, and works perfectly.

Good luck!

Hi Vypr, I need to check to be sure, but I believe my original 1974 keys are by Torino, and head shape is very close to the Taylor and 'smaller' Ilco shown. There's a pattern cut into the head, very small waffle pattern as I recall. Will check further unless someone else can confirm.

Ignition is same as Capri of course, and I'm told a Jaguar XJ6 door key is the same, so if you can find a Torino for those, likely that's your match.
I have one of the Torino keys, I assume it is the door or deck latch key - holding it up against my ignition key, it is fairly similar, but doesn't have shoulder material on one side, so I don't think it would work as an ignition key.

If anyone has found that it can be used, pls. pipe in.

The Ford key would be a nice one to find for 'originality'

Racerdave - anything on the reverse side of the Ford key (words/codes)?

Your keys both have massive amounts of cocaine on them and I have alerted the authorities. They said you used to be called RAZORDAVE. Very clever.

Those keys (absent the coke) are the same as mine, exactly. I found some key blanks a couple months ago that had "Capri" on one side, "Ford" on the other.
So, the '71 and '72 cars had big keys marked "Ford" as pictured for the ignition, and the '73/'74 cars had ignition keys shaped more like the TaylorX20? Or did the '73/'74s have "Ford" ignition keys originally too?

Seems as if all the '71-'74s had the Torino/Gioberts for the doors and hatch.

A Hudson, it would be very helpful if you could check your keys- thanks!
