So I am a new member and just purchased a pantera from an owner here. There are a few things I would like to do with the car, nothing major, mostly small fixes. But one is the intake housing. I've done some reading as I have one of the holley dogbone intakes. It looks great, but I also wonder if there is more performance hiding in the engine with a more efficient design. The dogbone doesn't fit under the hood as it is with the single plane intake manifold which honestly is great, but I'm looking at something that is more ram air.

I see those side air vents sold through PI have the holes designed to attach an intake inlet. I'm just not excited about replacing the glass with an aftermarket part even if it is made of carbon fiber. I'd have it painted as a preference, but wondering if anyone is using them for this purpose.

Lastly I remember going to the Knotts Fabulous Fords show back in 2002 when I was living in socal and seeing a Pantera with some kind of roof scoop fabricated that didn't stick way up above the roofline, but enough to act like a ram air setup. It wasn't the full scoop that was integrated into the hood which I've seen on some track cars. Anyone have pictures of some custom setups, or want to share what you've made?

I think Pat Mical (patsauto.com) has a scoop that sits above the cockpit. The issue with the side intakes is that studies have shown that there is very little air flow within an inch or so of the body at this point. That's why the most effective intakes are the large "elephant ears" seen on some cars. (on Pat's home page the picture of the outside gas filler shows the "elephant ears").If you go the POCA site I believe they have some photos of various cars with intakes. I'll have to search through my pictures to find examples. As for the intake, someone (can't recall who) did a dyno test with various setups, one of which was the dog-bone air cleaner against other designs. The bottom line: no appreciable difference.
And do realize that if you are really seeking ram-air as a performance improver, that won't happen until you are at least into triple digits.

Now if you want a good, clean source of cooler - non engine compartment - air, that is a different story.

For that, then the gill-replacement scoops will at least be feeding outside ambient temperature air. The over the roof scoop will do the same, but as far as I know, you are on your own in that modification; no vendor sells anything like it off the shelf.
