Does anyone have a good/safe way for removing lead from a car's bodywork? I'm guessing a torch, a good resperator and clothing that covers all of your skin, but other options are welcome.

Currently putting in a bunch of new sheetmetal (rockers, door latch skin etc), and I need to remove some lead from the door corner prior to welding in the new sheet metal there. Not a lot of lead there, but enough that I dont want to do this without thinking about it.

Ways on not to remove lead are welcomed too, so I dont go and make that mistake.

Thanks,
Dave

I use a small prestolite torch .. because the flame is not so hot ..and then cleaned it up with a grinder .. solder / lead cloggs the grinding wheels other wise I would do the entire procedure with the torch. .. protection ? I wouldnt breath it ... lond sleeve short and gloves with a resporator should do it ..
