Lubricate headlight door mechanism??

fordgt; There are two bushings and a stop ring on each side of the headlights on the headlight bar. Possibly some foreign material has gotten around them and is grinding against the metal supports - - Just a thought.

I had a headlight motor fail that made a squeal/screech sound before it finally siezed. Can you raise the headlights with the knob by hand? If not I suspect the motor. For reference my headlights well lubricated with a new motor raise by hand very easily. Before I could not raise them by hand without the knob jumping gears.

What is the condition of the plastic gear in the motor drive? They fail just like the doors.

plastic gear was replaced by bronze several years ago, I will inspect the pivots next.

Gary, our doors creaked in 1980. Turned out to be the flimsy plastic bushings on each end of the connecting headlight shaft, which were missing entirely when the car was only 8 yrs old. To access them, the buckets must be completely removed. The vendors have the correct bushings.

I was thinking I should do something like this since my radiator is out at the moment. Is there a way to access this without removing the buckets? maybe through the front splash shields or something? What type of lubricant would be suggested?

I think you can lube the bushings from the splash shields. I uses a spray can of white lithium grease with the little tube on the end for accuracy. If you have not replaced the plastic gear now is the time! Getting the headlight regulator out with the radiator in-place is not something you want to try unless you have a forward leaning setup. Even then it is a challenge.
