good least, the opportunity here (to buy) seems like a pretty painless way to suddenly have a new interior...the second opportunity, is this a good time for us to capture what original carpet looks like ?    the interior carpet had already been replaced in 8ma1076 ~40 years ago...measurements on the (3) engine covers here are probably worthless (at least, if you have the engine covers, you can fit the carpets...).

  What are some of the small pieces of carpet in the ad about?

Black velours carpet set kit for De Tomaso Mangusta - Picture 4 of 4

   And I think we'd agree, the interior carpets were a grayish Haargarn and the trunk carpets pure black?

M!ke, I was hoping that (of all people), you'd have the answers on all the rest Here a better picture (from 8ma1046) on the carpet forward of the tunnel leather...

(ok, when all else fails, look at the parts diagram) TAV showing , um, 14 pieces of carpet...then 6 in the trunk (not showing the engine covers)

..I know we've asked this question a lot, but;

   -were the original carpets really black, or instead a dark gray?

   - would they have been called Velour, Haargarn, or Sliverknit/Silverknit? I think for the trunk, its actually Squareweave.

Yes, my car really just needs to have the glass in place...but while I'm dreaming, I see this picture from 8ma1074 of original texture on the door seal, carpet edging, and this crazy 'howcouldIcallthisblackvelour' carpet... Probably can only satisfy myself by following up on Chris King's acknowledgments for;

Wow, that's a bewildering group of carpets in that kit!

Lee, I was thinking your mystery item #4 *may* fit just behind the A/C unit (#8 on the factory sketch), since that wasn't accounted for.  (It would make more sense if it were rotated 90 degrees clockwise in the photo).  As for mysteries #9 and #14, they must be for under the glass as M!ke mentioned, but maybe cut to accommodate a custom induction system??

While no original interior carpets remain on 8MA1010, the (jet black) rear set may have miraculously survived - looks possible at least.  But that said, there are several more pieces than the factory drawing shows. Most of these extra pieces are very small (see first attached photo), but they don't obviously match pieces from the Ebay set.

So ~15 years after taking them off 1010, I'm now bewildered by my own set of carpet bits

Nate, this helps a lot....

    - looking at the detail around the gas filler cap (for the first time), I just have to think yours is original and in great condition. At least, it looks like there is a kind of meticulously sewn 'collar' to fill the depth of the carpet, unlikely attention to a replacement..and the backing looks similar to the "fuse cover" piece from 8ma1046.

- I have been trying so hard to reconcile the grayish color (in 8ma1074 and others) against the black of the interior, and am coming to the conclusion that both must be right. At least, that 'mystery' carpet piece must be original--at least, I have to believe that my foot carpets were replaced in the mid 80's (they are single long pieces, and no grommet snaps to hold in place) and though the correct footpad is in place, the cutout for the headlamp lever (and thanks again was missing (along with the lever, and thanks again ). but the only way to explain the wear on the mystery cut is that it was there a long time, lets say 15 years and 20+k miles...

  Even though 8ma1074 was immediately before my car (and even, has the AC condenser bracket from 'my' car), it just appears that DeT had so much live variety in what they shipped...! M!ke, your car is/was so original, maybe you can break the tie...!

ok, now we're having fun...note in the Serenissima GT the mix of carpets--the floormats with a velour, and the thresholds using the square weave pattern (used in the Goose trunk).

To prove why Mangusta restoration is so simple, see what it takes for a Ferrari 330 , esp a tight square weave in the trunk and 'lowcut pile wool' in the cab.  I suppose if DeT used Wilton wool for the interior carpets, it would have been promoted then...but Italian wool seems to be high-falutin-nuff.. ...god help us when we start to distinguish jute from rubber backing. I have to admit, the more I look at replacement carpets, the more I think my originals look just fine...

Simon, I was surprised to find that...Re-originals has some interesting choices as well,...but esp the trunk carpet-- and wow, is the look right and the price (only a square meter, not a meter by 200cm...! ) all wrong: Carpet, original black Italian wool, small square... - ULoopSWB (

(ok, the economy version here at just half the price...damn, do my existing carpets look great) Carpet, original Italian black wool, jute back, short... - U13/TP65L (

(boy, like I have nothing else to do ) but interesting fit for the trunk carpet seems to have a common name at both World Upholstery and also Re-originals: Italian wool, "U13TP65..."

And before running away from the $675 per yard price from World Upholstery, realize that its the same cost as Reoriginals (just that its sold 4 square meters at a time. See their U13/TP65L)

    - at least, the texture seems to be similar to what I would have wanted to call a 'square weave...' where 'square weave' (or basket weave, or boucle) seems is a tight loop vs. a velour is a pile like waving grass...A comment on an Alfa forum states that its a little more plush than Wilton.

      And from the view, impossible to guess the pitch and coarseness of the squares...but the pattern (on a jute backing) seems to fit Nates picture, and the 'square' pattern probably one of those things that becomes more visible after 50 years of wear. Look especially at online pictures that are not just black.

  - note also, "U13TP66", aka "Anthracite" color that hmm, starts to gray up and just may be a match, to something, as the interior color that rhymes with "Haargarn"...this color also shows up in 60's Alfas, and note plenty of the same questions on the Alfa forums about whether the right color for a boat tail Duetto is black or gray...

  Reoriginals has a cheaper solution for Alfas as a "synthetic wool" (and whatever that means, whether it means a blend or as some insist, just looks better 30 years later).
